Cycling holiday in Bavaria
Day 1 Individual Arrival in Salzburg

Discover the Old Town which due to its picturesque houses with their artistic facades, the religious buildings and palaces as well as the cathedral was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. In Getreidegasse you will be able to visit the house where Mozart was born or you can take the opportunity to go on an extended shopping tour. Booked rental bicycles will be available in your hotel.

Day 2 Salzburg - Chieming region, approx. 65 km

The first stage of your cycling holiday leads you along the Salzach River to Oberndorf, where the Silent Night Chapel is situated on the site where the famous Christmas carol was first sung many years ago. In Laufen you will cross over the Salzach River and will have the opportunity to visit the beautiful Old Town. You will then continue on cycling inland towards Lake Waging, the warmest lake in Upper Bavaria. Why not take a refreshing swim after the day´s cycling?

Day 3 Chieming/Traunstein - Wasserburg, approx. 65 km

Relax on the shores of Lake Chiemsee before setting out on the last stage of your cycling trip before you cycle via Seeon on Lake Klostersee, or if you spent the night in Traunstein, directly along the shores of Lake Chiemsee to Breitbrunn and then via Amerang to Wasserburg. The medieval Old Town of Wasserburg is almost completely preserved and is well worth a visit! From the “Roten Brücke” Bridge you will have a beautiful view of the old house facades directly on the curving banks of the Inn River, before crossing through the Brucktor gateway, through which once the old Saltstreet lead into the Old Town.

Day 4 Wasserburg - Kufstein, approx. 65 km

Today you will leave the town of Wasserburg which is situated in a meander of the river and after a short cycle along the Inn you will come to the ancient trading town of Rosenheim, also known as the location for numerous films and TV series. Neubeuern Castle is also worth a visit along today’s route and there is a beautiful panoramic view from the castle. You will then leave Bavarian soil in Kiefersfelden and cycle into Austria, where shortly after the border your destination of Kufstein, the “Pearl of Tyrol” is located.

Day 5 Kufstein - Kirchdorf/St. Johann in Tirol, approx. 45 km

You will only follow along the Inn for a few kilometres this morning before the landscape changes and you head towards the hills of the holiday region of Kaiserwinkl in Tirol which is a region which has been left in its natural state. You will cycle through the village of Walchsee located on the shores of the lake of the same name where you can take a break for a refreshing dip in the cooling waters. You will then continue on through the impressive Tyrolean mountain landscape to St. Johann in Tirol or Kirchdorf.

Day 6 Kirchdorf/St. Johann in Tirol - Bad Reichenhall/Bayerisch Gmain, approx. 50 km

Today´s route leads you along the Saalach River and through Waidring and Lofer at the foot of the Loferer Steinberge Mountains from where you will follow along the wildly romantic cycling route to Bad Reichenhall. You will be able to relax and recover from the hills along today’s route in the spa town with its numerous saltwater springs and baths. A journey with the Predigtstuhl-railway, the oldest large cable car which is open all year round in the world, offers great views of the area!

Day 7 Bad Reichenhall/Bayerisch Gmain - Berchtesgaden, approx. 25 km

Today´s route is not particularly long, which gives you the chance to either round off your day in the Berchtesgaden thermal baths or to take a very rewarding trip to Lake Königssee located nearby in Berchtesgaden National Park. The town centre of Berchtesgaden is filled with historical houses, villas and castles.

Day 8 Berchtesgaden - Salzburg, ca. 30 km and individual return journey home or extension of your stay

Along the last route of the cycling trip, you will follow along the Ache River past Marktschellenberg towards Austria and the Salzburg region. From afar you will be able to see the Hohensalzburg, which accompanies you past Hellbrunn Castle into the festival city and which you will have time to visit. Your cycling holiday in Bavaria comes to an end here and your luggage will be available for collection from 6pm onwards. We would, however, be more than happy to extend your stay in Salzburg.
