Cycle Tour in Chiemgau

Cycling in the homeland of Pope Benedict in 7 days / 6 nights from 489,- €
Cycle tour in Chiemgau - Chiemsee

The destination for this cycling tour is the idyllic and historic region of Chiemgau. Originally part of the Celtic-Roman kingdom of Noricum, in the Middle Ages it was an independent dominion situated between the duchy of Bavaria and the prince-bishopric of Salzburg. The gentle, rolling hills of the landscape are still farmed, impressive farmhouses testify to the prosperity and self-confidence of the local farmers. The numerous churches and monasteries are great examples of the Baroque style. Religious life is still very much present in the region, for example in the place of pilgrimage Altötting. Pope Benedict spent his childhood and teenage years here. The highlight of the trip is of course Chiemsee Lake with its famous islands. This cycle tour in Chiemgau is also suitable for out of practice cyclists.

Day 1 Individual Arrival in Wasserburg

Wasserburg

The medieval Old Town of Wasserburg is almost completely preserved and is well worth a visit! From the “Roten Brücke” Bridge you will have a beautiful view of the old house facades directly on the curving banks of the Inn River, before crossing through the Brucktor gateway, through which at one time the old Salzstraße lead into the Old Town. A visit to the "Ersten Imaginären Museum" is also recommended, where you can gain an insight into the living conditions in earlier centuries.

Inn Cycle Route

Today’s route leads you through Kraiburg and Ebing with their beautiful townscapes. Waldkraiburg is a very young town: it was founded in 1950 from an armament complex of the armed forces and was the first refugee town in Germany. For centuries Mühldorf was a pawn between the Bavarian leaders and the Bishops of Salzburg and has a beautifully preserved Old Town in the Inn-Salzach-Style.
